Coincidence or Fate?

Mike and I had some Chinese the other night, I kinda chuckled when I opened my fortune cookie and it said "Happiness is just next to you" I told Mike that I would have to agree. Well lo and behold, guess what Mike's fortune was. Yep, the same. I know that there are a lot of cookies in one package, but never has we had the same fortune.

Lady Fingers

This is the second year that we got together with Mike's family to make lady fingers, their grandmother's recipe. They make the cakes  before we get there, then it is dipped frosting, and then rolled in nuts.

Although the fingers are delish, I don't think anything compared the "the boys" being together. It was funny watching them hang out. To me, even thought I haven't been in the family that long, since Mike's mother passed away, people have just strayed away. Or maybe it is just our hermit actions. Either way, it was good to see all of them. I told Mike that maybe they should just have a guy day, go fishing or something.

Here Turkey Turkey Turkey

Coming home from Montello, I encountered a horde of turkeys. What little you can see is nothing compared to what was out there. And they had no qualms about staying on the road either. Damn birds.

Bringing Back the Wood?

I don't think so.

Got this wild hair to try and see if we can't bring back some of the woodwork that is in the house. Bought some strip fast, supposed to penetrate through 5 layers. Three times we applied the stuff, and still not close to being near the wood. I think we counted at least 8 different colors, and that doesn't include the same color paint. The bottom picture is not showing wood, just another color of paint.

So I guess we will just keep painting over the top of it. Maybe someday one of us will get detailed carpentry skills and put up some new wood frames. Just not this time around.

Busy Week

So my commitment to this blog has failed. What started out as a couple missed days has turned into a full week. Been so busy, actually, just going somewhere everyday and not coming home till late has left little time to do anything. But, never found anything interesting to take a pic of, except for Toretto, but that is another day.

One of the things that we have been doing is pricing. Windows and carpet. Trying to get these things done. We come to the conclusion that we are just going to have to start doing something a little at a time. Like buying a window or two a month, depending on a sale. One thing I want to do now is to carpet Emily's room. That is our next step. We had a local carpet shop owner out to measure the room, but he apparently didn't want our business. Right away he stated that it would be cheaper to do a partial carpet than to do a wall to wall carpet. I asked him if the edges were finished and he said no. He said it would be cheaper that way. Well you know what, I didn't want cheaper. I knew what I was expecting when I went to the local carpet shop, wanted to keep it local and have professional installation. Apparently, he didn't think I could afford that. He kept on stressing it was "cheaper." I am sure that my house isn't fancy, but what home that needs total renovation is? I really got the feeling that he judged me according to my house, and guess what, I got money to spend elsewhere.

I don't really have a picture to go according to this post, so here's a flower.

Before....and After.

This is Emily's room before, the nice pink and green paint that she so loved when she was seven. I guess she got tired of that quickly. For years she has been asking to get her room painted.

She now has a nice brown color, I would have thought she would have chosen something with a bit more color, but I think she has got camo in mind.

I hate painting, but it did go fairly fast, especially since Micayla came over. She did some of the edge work. Tonight we went and got a color for her trim, windows and doors. An accent color that was on the color card.

Of course, you cant paint without having a little fun.

 Like a Sir!

I am looking into carpet and then I hope to get windows in as soon as it is warm enough.

Let the Home Improvement Begin!

Well a couple days space in between posts is longer than I really wanted, but you got to have something to post about. Just been working too much to really want to do anything. Although we are not scheduled next weekend, yet, I want to plan on something, even if we have to start out later if I have to work.

The thing that we are concentrating on now is home improvement. It is something that we really wanted to do since we moved into the house, but we wanted to wait and see if we can do it all in one shot. Well, that dream ended real quick, so now it is time to do it a bit at a time. If I have to buy one window a month, at least it will get done. It will be nice to actually have windows that open up. The one that lived here before has nailed and sealed the windows shut. Only a few of them in my house open. I am the type that likes openness. :)

I hate painting. Let's start with that. But, I need to put that aside and just start painting around here. I got some rooms that are half done and walls that are a flat dirty white. It's time to put on my big girl panties and deal with it.

First, is Emily's room. She has had the same pink and green colors since we moved in and she was 7. But now a bit outdated for her. She is also the first one to get new windows because hers are the worst.

She has chosen a brown color. She wanted that because it will go with anything she put in her room. I am thinking camo...That's my girl.

Conclusion

It has come to my attention that at this time, with the weather being cold and snowing every damn day, that it is not plausible that I can post something everyday. At least until the weather gets better; or warmer.

With that said.

This is why I like a mixed bouquet instead of roses. Roses seem to wither and die right away. I believe that I have had these flowers for a couple weeks now. They still look good.

Daddy's Bow

In case I actually have followers, you would have noticed that I did not post anything yesterday. It simply was a case that I didn't have anything to write about.

After my Dad passed away, I always wanted something of his, something that he used.  Mom offered me a pocket watch, but it wasn't something that he used very much. I had no need for his guns, but I think my brothers got some of those, I am not sure.

Recently, my interest peeked in bows. Somehow Mike got an interest in it, and then I thought it might be something worth trying. So we have been looking around. Not really jumping right in and thinking I got to have one, but just weighing the thought of a bow. I wouldn't go hunting with it, since I would have no use of the meat if I did, but mainly just to target shoot.

Imagine my surprise when my brother brought out my Dad's bow over the holidays. I forgot that he had a bow. I asked my Mom about it and she said that no one wants it basically because they all have their own. I said that I would buy it from her if she wanted to get rid of it. It just tickled my fancy when I brought it home. It has been sitting for awhile since my Dad got sick, so I took it in to a local sports shop and had them fix it up. They put a new string and sites on it. I was a bit disappointed when the guy told me that the draw was to long, but I said that I didn't care that it was my Dad's and that was all that was important.

If I won't be able to shoot it, I would like to display it somehow. I was hoping it would fit in Mike's gun cabinet somehow, but he says it wouldn't. Someday.

Obsession?

In my job, I work in cooler temperatures. Which inevitably my lips would get chapped on a daily basis. So I usually have a couple tubes of lip balm somewhere near me. The problem is, I never can find them when I put them down. Usually they are in my purse, but I leave the zipper open and then they fall out.

I just bought a couple more tubes of balm; always like to try something new.  Seems like I just bought some about a month ago, but they were gone, and I need chapstick. I just happen to be digging in my purse when I discovered a hole. Yep, you guessed it, all my chapsticks and lip balm were at the bottom of my purse, in the lining. Now it looks like I got some sick obsession with lip balm. Well it could be worse.

And that is not all of it, that is just what was in the bottom of my purse.

Better Than Hooters?

I went to Hooters once, a few years ago when my hubby and I went to the Mall of America. We were told we needed to go there; the wings were awesome. Well we went. Wasn't impressed. One of the main attractions to Hooters (besides the wings) are the tight t-shirt ladies baring all they got. Well they obviously didn't have any minimal standards as to what they had. Our waitress looked like she was smuggling grapes. And don't give me that "you looked?" when you can't help but to see what God (or Dr.) gave them.

With that said. We decided to go to the Twisted Kilt. We seen it on an episode of Undercover Boss and thought that the food looked good. I know from the show that the ladies were scantily clad. They had a short little "kilt" on and a matching bra top, with a white shirt over that; midriff was bare. We were sitting by a window, and you could feel the cool breeze and I felt sorry for the lady because you could see that she was cold, so we didn't keep her to linger and told her to come back in a few. Go heat up by the kitchen.

My hubby ordered some wings with a special tilted kilt sauce, which were some of the best wings I have ever tasted, that right there beats out Hooters. He also got a chicken fried chicken meal with a hand breaded tender piece of fresh chicken. It was almost too good. I just had a cheese steak sandwich, which was still good.

Another plus is that these ladies actually "filled" out their uniforms. Now again, you don't have to stare at something to see anything, especially when it is on display. Our waitress also had piercings above her tramp stamp. I don't understand that one, but to each it's own. And again, you can't help but notice things that are just there, and with that said, my eyes couldn't help but to glimpse a few times at a blonde bartender. Not because I wanted to stare at her chest, but because I wanted to know how in the world those things didn't fall out! I know she gets good tips.

You can't end a good meal without dessert, I am not one for getting dessert at every meal, but ah, it was cheesecake. Nuf said.

I know that this would be a place that I will visit again. For the wings....

Shells on The Floor

When you decide that you want to go to dinner early because you want to beat the crowd, does that make you old? I have noticed that when we go out to eat it is usually fairly early (5:00) because I simply don't like the wait, or the crowds. I am going to get me a fake ID so that I can get the senior early bird special at restaurants.

We decided to go to a local bar and grill called the Thirsty Beaver. They just did some remodeling inside and it looks really nice.

I noticed right away that there were peanut shells on the floor. I guess that this must be a new thing. I have seen it at other places, eat your peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. Apparently it helps keeping the floor clean and buffed. Well whatever works. Although I felt like a rebel when I was pushing the shells on the floor. I can't imagine what it would look like after a Saturday night.
